Objectives for Module 1:

Following completion of this learning module, the participant should be able to:

  1. List the indications for the use of the LMA.
  2. List the various sizes of the LMA that are available and their appropriate selection.
  3. Repeat the contraindications to the use of the LMA .
  4. Describe the problems associated with the insertion of LMA and how to recognize these         clinically.
  5. Demonstrate how the LMA can assist in endotracheal intubation.
  6. Summarize the current controversies regarding aspiration risk and the use of the LMA.
  7. To understand the role of the LMA in the difficult airway algorithm.
