Introduction

 

Infective endocarditis (IF) is a serious, potentially life threatening infection that may involve the heart valves, endocardium or intracardiac septal defects. For many years the American Heart Association (AHA) has made recommendations regarding prophylactic antimicrobial therapy for patients felt to be at high risk of developing this condition. The purpose of module is to summarize the most recent recommendations from the AHA.1
